Fleet Wash – Cars & Trucks – Tar Removal in Chattanooga: Job Description (Completed Project)
This project involved a full exterior fleet wash and targeted tar removal service for a mixed fleet of cars and trucks operating in the Chattanooga area. The work was carried out on-site at the client’s location to minimize downtime and keep vehicles available for regular operations.
The job began with a detailed inspection of each vehicle to identify areas where road tar, asphalt residue, and heavy surface contaminants had accumulated—primarily along lower panels, wheel arches, rocker panels, bumpers, and rear sections. Both light-duty cars and heavier trucks were included, each requiring slightly different approaches based on paint condition, surface materials, and the level of buildup.
A two-step pre-treatment process was used. First, vehicles were foamed with a fleet-safe detergent to loosen general road film, dust, and grime. Once rinsed, specific tar-removal products, formulated to be safe on clear coat and trim, were applied directly to the affected areas. The team allowed appropriate dwell time, then gently agitated the surfaces with soft, non-marring tools to lift the tar without scratching paint or damaging finishes.
For the truck segment of the fleet, additional attention was given to high-impact zones and exposed metal components that regularly encounter highway debris. Extra time was spent on fenders, lower door panels, fuel tanks, and step areas where tar and grease tend to accumulate more heavily. The process ensured that both painted and metal surfaces were thoroughly cleaned without stripping protective coatings.
All vehicles were then pressure-rinsed with controlled water pressure suited to fleet finishes, removing the loosened tar and chemical residue. After rinsing, the team conducted a second visual inspection of each unit, spot-treating any remaining tar specks, especially on lighter-colored vehicles where imperfections are more visible.
To finish, each car and truck received a final rinse and a controlled air-dry and towel-dry where necessary, ensuring no streaks or water spotting remained on exterior surfaces, mirrors, or glass. Tires and visible wheel faces were also cleaned to match the refreshed appearance of the bodywork.
The completed job resulted in a uniformly clean fleet with tar buildup removed, paintwork restored to a consistent appearance, and vehicles better prepared for both public-facing use and easier future maintenance washes. The client’s cars and trucks left the site free of visible tar contamination, presenting a cleaner, more professional image on the road throughout Chattanooga and surrounding routes.
